In summary, this is the first Australian-based, hospital- wide, prospective IV fluid administration and monitoring audit of adult ward patients in a tertiary teaching hospital. We found that serum electrolyte measurements were performed during the previous 24 h in 84% of patients receiving IV fluids, but that body weight measurements were not docu- mented in 85% of patients. Why hospitalized patients who require maintenance IV fluids do not have monitoring of IV fluids via regular body weight measurements requires further investigation
