The primary purpose of this study was to examine whether leader fit perceptions are
related to transformational leadership behaviors. This research question is of
importance as we strive to understand the role of fit in the transformational leadership
process between leaders and followers. In this study, leader demands-abilities fit had a
positive relationship with transformational leadership. These findings are consistent
with the notion that leader demands-abilities fit matters and that leaders are more
likely to engage in transformational leader behavior in some circumstances than in
others. Hopefully, results will lead future researchers to build on the findings to
develop a better understanding of these relationships. More research is needed as we
continue to explore why some leaders engage in transformational leadership behaviors
that benefit not only their followers, but also their entire organizations and society as a
whole.
