Of the 50 patients initially enrolled in the study, 10 died before
discharge. These patients’ data were included in allmeasures other
than hospital length of stay (Gottschlich correspondence), thus,
this study’s data were reported on an intention-to-treat basis. The
study authors found no statistically significant differences in glycaemic
control, days on ventilator, mortality, cumulative incidence
of pneumonia or sepsis, or discharge weight as a percentage of preburn
weight using analysis of variance between the three groups.
No analysis combining groups 1 and 3 into ’high-fat’ and comparing
this combined group with group 2 as ’high-carbohydrate’
was reported.
