In 2010, Starbucks formed a new Consumer Products Group (CPG) to be responsible for sales of Starbuck products sold in all channels other than Starbucks company operated and licensed retail stores and to manage the company’s partnerships and joint ventures with PepsiCo, Unilever, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, and others. Exhibit 4 shows the recent performance of the Consumer Products Group. Starbucks executives considered that the sales opportunities for Starbucks products in distribution channels outside Starbucks retail stores were quite attractive from the standpoint of both long term growth and profitability.
