It can be taught as part of a unit on fluid foils or as a stand-alone activity to comple- ment an existing activity-based technology and engineering cur- riculum. The kite activity is scalable by grade level. It also has the potential to involve fellow colleagues in art, social studies, science, and math classrooms.
The concept of space as a physical medium with definable properties is essential to understanding why fluid foils, includ- ing kites, work. This raises questions about the nature of force and energy. An answer to these questions is beyond the scope of this article; but might it also be beyond the scope of human understanding?
