For wet pellicles, syneresis of ATBC was 55.33% and that of
composites declined with rising immersion concentration. The
syneresis of crosslinking treated composites were in the order of
ATBC/G/T>ATBC/G/G >ATBC/G/E (Fig. 4a). Syneresis was determined
under centrifugal force to reflect the water holding ability of
the sample, and relatively low syneresis demonstrated the high
water adsorption ability of crosslinking treated composites. This
phenomenon reflects the high storage moduli of EDC crosslinking
treated composites (Fig. 2) caused by effective interaction and
junction zones between gelatin and cellulose ribbons, resulting in
high water holding ability.
