Hills Like White Elephant” written by Ernest Hemingway is mainly a conversation between a male and a female, their names are never fully mentioned in the conversation, but in the conversation, however, they do have mentioned about some kind of operation which caught my eyes. Although they didn’t specifically talked about the detail of that operation, it seems like they are talking about an abortion. I think that because the male was dominating the conversation when it comes to the “operation”, he seems to be suggesting the female towards the operation, making her feel ok about doing that operation. And on the other hand, the female seems to be indecisive, she seems to be confused and don’t know what to do. If she is pregnant, then it will all make sense, because it is her call to decide if she keeps the baby, which is a big decision to make. On the other hand, the guy just wanted to have a world of them two only, he doesn’t want a kid to jump into his life. And it also explains why they didn’t talk about the detail of that operation because abortion is too sensitive to be mentioned and if he doesn’t mention it, it will be easier for him to convince her to agree with the operation.
