We thank Dolf Straathof and the greenhouse crew for their help
with the creation of an organic and a conventional greenhouse
compartment, and the set-up and excellent maintenance of a large,
complex tomato experiment from the end of 2003 to the end of
2006. We are grateful for the assistance of many MS students of
Wageningen University and international visiting scientists who
worked on this tomato experiment and thereby contributed to the
soil samples used in the current experiments. We also thank Oscar
de Vos Dine Volker and Hennie Halm for technical assistance with
the set-up of the
flax experiments and soil biological and chemical
analyses. Funds were provided by various fellowships for visiting
scientists from the Dutch Scientific Research Organization NWO,
the Graduate School Production Ecology and Resource Conserva-
tion of Wageningen UR and from the Chinese Government, as well
as student fellowships provided by the NUFFIC program of NWO
and Wageningen University. Kalpana Sharma was funded by grant
13-8130-0327-CA from USDA-APHIS.
