This true story of eternal love comes to us from seventeenth-century Asia. The Mogul ruler, Shah Jahan loved his favourite wife so much that he named her Mumtaz Mahal, which means ‘Jewel of the Palace’. Sadly, Mumtaz died when she was having the couple’s fourteenth baby. Shah Jahan was heartbroken and the only thing that distracted him was the building of a beautiful monument in her memory. It took over twenty years to build, and on its completion, Mumtaz’s body was transferred to a tomb inside. Later, when Shah Jahan died, his body was placed in a tomb next to his wife. The building is the Taj Mahal and Shah Jahan and his wife still lie there together today.
