The ion source being developed is a volume plasma discharge
and filament driven proton source. Fig. 5 shows the last version of
the source already tested. Intense proton beams have been
produced and transported to a suppressed Faraday cup. A com-
plete new test stand has been built and commissioned for intense
proton and deuteron beam production and characterization.
Fig. 6 shows an image, taken with a CCD camera, of the intense
proton beam taken through a vacuum window, visible due to the
fluorescence induced in the residual hydrogen gas.
