Table 1
Overview of the different preharvest treatments, harvest dates, 1-MCP treatment,
and CA storage of ‘Braeburn’ fruit. The design consisted of eight different
combinations of these factors (conditions 1–8). Two levels of calcium and
potassium fertilizers, and triazole fungicides were used (none versus maximum
allowed level in Belgium). Fruit were harvested either earlier or later than the
commercial harvest date. Some fruit received commercial application level of 1-
MCP, while others received no 1-MCP treatment. After overnight cooling of the fruit
at 1 C, CA at 1 C was applied without delay and consisted of optimum versus
suboptimum levels of O2 (optimum = 2.5 %; suboptimum = optimum –2%) and CO2
(optimum = 0.7 %; suboptimum = optimum +3%).
