Reform in education is thus most important. The Chinese educational philosophy is how to educate a person to be a good human being. A good human being is someone who is equipped with a sense of responsibility, morality and ethic. He or she has to learn to have “the capacity” to be a human being, so goes the saying. A person who received a good education but lacked decency, morality and doing harm to society would fail the person as a “human being.” The person is thus not worthy of the term “human being” or rern in Chinese. Education reform is thus extremely important because education builds character of members of the society and members of the society are the builders of their society. What a society will turn out to be or become depends on what kind of people the society has and what kind of people a society has will depend on education.
