Growing communities
there are around 1.5 milion people of japanese origin living in brazil - more than in any country apart from japan. the first people from japan decide to brazil at the beginning of the last century looking for a better life. most of them work on coffee plantations. some of them marry brazilians,have children and settled in their new country.
During the second word wor, brazil didn't allow the teaching of japanese in schools and the children of the settlers spttlers spcak only portuguese. at the end of the war many more japanese people return to stay in brazil.
in the 1980s there were economic problems in brazil while japan's economy begin to improve. A lot of japanese families come to japan today there are around 300000 japanese brazilians living in japan
