We started the class with the touching topic that is ‘teacher who is still in your mind.’ We had to either imagine back to our previous teachers that still magnificent stay in our memory or the teachers who had wound us in the past. Then, we got a chance to share our experience about the teachers in memories. Some of us choose to talk about the impressive teachers in their mind, some talked about awful experiences with their fierce teachers. In this activity, I found that the bad experience can cause the inferiority to students but it can be an important impulsion to help them get rid of that dark hole. However, these students said, if they have a chance to choose teachers themselves, they will certainly not choose this kind of teachers. What I’ve learned from this activity were we as a teacher in a very near future should follow the characteristics of a good teacher that can inspire our students to learn and kept away from the actions that would cause them pain.
Later, a teacher had us grouped up in three to discuss about how differences in learners effect how teachers should teach. In this activity we found that learners are varies depending on several factors such as aptitude, interest, learner style, and etc. For the individual variations, teacher should carefully observe the different characteristics of the students—interests, strengths, weaknesses and balance it with proper activities for the best result of learning.
We further discussed in the context of where teachers need to play different roles and express the word to describe characteristics of teachers. The roles of teachers are varied upon the situations in the classroom and classroom operations such as being a monitor when ordering students to do things or as a facilitator to guide students when they having discussions. To use the words to describe teachers’ characteristics, we got numerous words to describe such as well-rounded, reliable, flexible, responsible, creative, and etc.
