The wife of the Marquis of Monferrato is unable to have children, but one day she falls asleep in a garden and is impregnated by a snake that enters her stomach and then disappears. At the moment of birth, she brings into the world a daughter, named Biancabella, and a snake. Biancabella grows into a beautiful young girl and marries the king of Naples, but is hated to death by the stepmother of her husband because of her supernatural beauty, known all over the world. Taking advantage of a period of absence of the king, she orders her servants to kill Biancabella, but they are moved to pity and just cut off her hands and cut out her eyes. Forced to wander alone in the woods, Biancabella finds refuge at the home of two old men, until the snake, her sister, goes to her rescue and heals her wounds and disabilities with some special herbs. The young girl can then return to the King of Naples and the stepmother is thrown into a furnace.
