African relevance
While the Surviving Sepsis Campaign guidelines have gained international recognition and led to improved outcomes for SS/SS patients in developed countries, many of the recommendations cannot be implemented within LMICs due to a lack of resources. For example, in many circumstances, one of the most fundamental of needs, staffing for appropriate patient monitoring, is inadequate, and there is poor access to higher levels of care such as intensive care units.Furthermore, there is debate about the transferability of some studies performed in high-income countries.Nonetheless, there exists evidence that a bundled approach to sepsis care in the developing world, focused on early fluid and antibiotic administration improves mortality in Africa.
