These scaffolding are monitored and verified by means of scaff-tag system and checked every two weeks after its erection.
Before erection begins, it is necessary for the scaffolding supervisor to check that the materials are of the right type and in suitable condition. In the case of tube, check that it is straight and not badly corroded. Severe corrosion can visually be determined by a thinning of the tube wall at the ends. Severely corroded tubes shall not be used.
(b) All tubes and materials should be free from distortion, corrosion, splits, laminations and undue rust. The inspection shall be performing on every 6 months. Any defected material shall be segregated.
(c) Scaffolding at height of more than three (3) meters should be :
- At least 600mm wide working platform.
- Fitted all around with railings to a height of one (1) meter above the stage.
- Closely planked. The planks must be properly secured against slipping.
- Toe-boards must also be fitted to prevent materials falling from the platform.
(d) Planks have to be periodically examined by the scaffolding supervisor for defects or cracks and defective planks must not be used for the erecting of staging.
(e) Safe access by means of ladders to and from the stage should be provided.
(f) Planks used for stages must not be placed on the ladders rung.
(g) Mobile staging should be identified and periodically checked and maintained in good working condition.
(h) No one is allowed to be on a mobile stage when it is being moved.
(i) Scaffolding shall carry notices stating incomplete until it has been inspected by the scaffold supervisor. No personnel other than scaffolding shall be permitted to gain access to incomplete scaffold.
(j) A register of scaffolds shall be kept and all scaffolds shall be inspected by authorized inspector after erection.
