A soluble acyltransferase
(named DGAT3) was recently identified in Arabidopsis
mutants defective in acyl turnover [40], suggesting that a recycling
pathway exists in plant cells that “scavenges” excess acyl-CoAs into
triacylglycerol. This DGAT3 is homologous to another soluble DGAT
identified previously in peanut [41], and indicates that much more
remains to be understood about the lipid metabolic pathways that
synthesize, recycle and/or turnover triacylglycerols in plant cells.
