Reflections on the case
The New Forest is an internationally significant natural resource that attracts large numbers of both recreation and tourism visitors. Whilst tourism and recreation provide jobs and income to the local economy, there is a view that their activities are having a detrimental effect on the resource. As a result, a range of agencies have been involved in complex management schemes in the Forest with a view to reducing both the numbers of visitors and their impacts, a policy likely to be given greater emphasis by the new National Park Authoriy.
