It must be recalled that the soy-based formula was developed to meet the nutritional needs of the full-term newborn, and several studies in humans have shown that it promotes growth and development similar to those of infants fed cow’s milk-based formula, but it shows no advantage over cow’s milk-based nutritional formulas and contains high levels of phytate, aluminum, and phytoestrogens (isoflavones), which can result in undesirable effects.
