Therefore, a compared experiment using commercial glucose as substrate for dark fermentative hydrogen production was carried out.The commercial glucose concentration was 36.9 g/L which is equal to the optimal glucose concentration derived from the food waste hydrolysate for cumulative hydrogen production. As shown in Fig. 2, the cumulative hydrogen production using commercial glucose was 4437.9 mL which was obviously lower than that using food waste hydrolysate (4754.3 mL) probably due to much more nutrients (such as free amino nitrogen) containing in the food waste hydrolysate.
