The process of making gold-containing ornamental
metal jewellery and related objects comprises
three stages: alloying metal for its intended use;
fabricating the intended object, which can include
soldering or brazing; and polishing or buffing the
completed piece. Each of these stages of the production
process can lead to various metallic (eg,
cadmium (Cd)) and non-metallic (eg, fume) exposures
of potential health concern.
