We deployed two major implementations of Zeroconf: Avahi and Mono.Zeroconf. Since Avahi runs in Linux and Mono.Zeroconf runs in Windows, we configured the machines so that they can be dual-bootable. We used the same machines, Dell XPS M1210, in order to get consistent results that will constitute a solid basis for comparing the performance results of the two Zeroconf implementations. As shown in Fig. 1, the main goal was to implement a service discovery layer to both Zeroconf implementations. This service discovery layer supports the discovery of both services and devices in the Zeroconf network.
