The multiple regression analysis in experiment 1
showed that, although weaning age was a significant
determinant of pig weight at 10 weeks of age,the effect
was small. Increasing weaning age by one week resulted in
a 0.9 kg increase in pig weight at 10 weeks of age. Previous
work by our group found weaning age to be a much more
important determinant of subsequent pig weight with
each 1 day increase in weaning age contributing to a
500 g increase in weight at 28 days postweaning (Lawlor
et al.,2003b).
