Ensuring an adequate intake of protein is not the only concern of those who follow a strictly vegetarian diet full time. Another important nutrient, not commonly found in plant foods, is vitamin B12. "Inadequate vitamin B12 intake ... won't likely be a problem during a 10-day abstinence from meat, but longer than that could be risky. B12 is commonly found in meat, but also in some plants. Nuts and seeds are a good source of plant-based B12 as are fermented soya products," Dr Anadi explained
