The game form is the factor which separates sport from such other forms of cooperative/competitive activity as dance, music, art, and drama. These activities could be considered sport, in its broadest sense, if conducted in the game form. For example, auditions for musical or theatrical productions could incorporate characteristics of the game form as do art contestants that are designed to rank order the artwork of contestants according to pre-determined criteria. Such an interpretation is an extreme view of sport, and is mentioned only to appreciate the recreational approach to sport. In keeping with the practical focus of this material, we present examples of sport in Figure 1-1 at the end of this section to indicate the diversity.
