Many micro pollutants, such as acyclovir, bezafibrate and atenolol, are almost ubiquitously degraded in aerobic wastewater treatment processes, whereas compounds such as trimethoprim,
diuron and diclofenac seem to require quite specific aerobic treatment conditions for their transformation.Demethylation and deiodination of some target micropollutants with high aerobic persistence can be achieved under anaerobic conditions (i.e. demethylation of venlafaxine and deiodination of diatrizoate).
