Today learning is more often linked to learner adaptation to activities and learning environments. During
collaboration of Kaunas and Dunaujvaros colleges the idea to compare both institutions' first year students' adaptation peculiarities
at college and their attitude to adaptation was born. We believe that despite country, culture and higher education institution, the
process of adaptation is not an easy challenge for first year students and many adaptation problems are similar in different
countries.
The aim of the research is– to compare how the process of adaptation at college is evaluated by Kaunas and Dunaujvaros
UAS students. The article analyses KC and DC (hereafter KC – Kauno kolegija/University of Applied Sciences, DC - College of
Dunaujvaors/ University of Applied Sciences) student attitudes toward their learning environment (living and learning conditions,
duration of adaptation to changed conditions or people who helped to orient); interferences related to the possibilities of KC and DC
students to obtain good study outcomes are analysed, and social-psychological factors that facilitate KC and DC students’
adaptation are distinguished.
Key words: adaptation, students’ attitude, learning environments, study outcomes, obstacles hindering good study
outcomes.
