Once upon a time, there was a family of an old couple who did not have any children. One day their found an abandoned baby boy near their hut, they decided to adopt him. The boy was different from other boys. He grew up very fast and ate a lot. He ate up all the food and did not leave any for the grandparents. The old couple began to worry because they were very poor. Since they had an adopted grandson, they had never felt full. One day, the couple discussed the problem together. They decided to kill him otherwise they would be in trouble. On the next day, the old man persuaded the boy to cut a tree in the forest in order to use the wood to make a big spoon. He chose the big tree for he planned to have the tree fell down on the boy in order to kill him. The old man cut the tree and asked the boy to receive it. The boy willingly ran to get the tree. When the tree fell down, the boy was buried in the ground. However, he was not dead. He attempted to climb up from the hole made by the big log. The old man hurried back home to tell his wife about the good news.
While the boy who was not even hurt, climbed up from the hole. He looked around and could not see his grandfather. He just wanted to ask the length and the width of the wood that his grandfather would use. Not knowing what to do, he carried the big log back home.
When he arrived he overheard his grandparents’ conversation.
“ I have already done it. He was killed.”
When the old lady heard the news she was very happy so she went to the kitchen and cooked. She thought that this would be the first day she would have enough to eat.
He felt very sad, he appeared at the door and asked the couple sadly.
“Why do you want to kill me, Grandpa, Grandma?”
The grandmother replied;
“ It’s because you eat too much, we have never felt full since we had you with us. We are too old to work and feed you. If we still have you here, one day we will die.”
When the boy understood what the old woman said, he felt embarrassed for what he did. He knelt down put his palm together and bent down on the couple’s feet to apologize for troubling them from time to time. He promised to work for them. Since he was so strong, he could carry very heavy things much more than others. People called him “Kahang Sher Tiel” which meant “powerful and strong”. Not long after, he became rich because of his talent and his perseverance. He could take a good care of his grandparents ever after.
