The non-blinded study design was given as a possible reason. When looking at differences in lipid lowering between double-blinded and non-blinded studies, it is evident that the doubleblinded studies[8,14-16] show much larger differences between statin and control groups than the nonblinded studies.[23,24] This could be due to higher use of statins or use of non-pharmacological cholesterol interventions in the control group.
