One of the strains identified as Stenella araguata was found to differ from H. werneckii in two 18S RFLP patterns (table 2). The Phaeotheca srains from saltpans had two patterns wiyh common with H. werneckii. They were found to be identical to the ex-type strains of P. traingularis, CBS 471.90. Strains identified as phaeotheca fissurella Sigler et al. had two patterns in common with H. werneckii aswell as with phaeotheca traingularis. Aireobasidium pullulans was found to be clearly different, having three patterns in common with Hortaea and one with Phaeotheca (Table 2).
