Repetitive walking on concrete like surfaces will cause certain types of foot problems, such as plantar fasciilis (werner, gell, hartigan, wiggerman, & Keyserling,2010). The provision of more flexible walk-ing surfaces, such as properly padded carpet or flexible linoleum, may lessen or prevent the incidence of foot problems. Educating nurses about the importance of replacing shoes on a regular basis also is needed, as most people are reluctant to replace shoes that do not show visible wear.
