Escaping from Moriarty
Holmes refused to stay at my house that night because s he did not want me to be in danger. He came out into the garden with me, climbed over the back wall, and disappeared down a street.
In the morning I followed Holmes's orders. I arrived at the station and found the second carriage of the train.
lo But I could not see my friend anywhere. I sat down beside an old foreigner and anxiously wondered about Holmes. The train was ready to leave.
'My dear Watson,' said a voice, 'you have not even I said good morning.'
15 I turned round in complete surprise. The old
foreigner was looking towards me. It was Holmes in disguise.
'Good God!' I cried.
'Such secrecy is still necessary,' Holmes whispered. zo 'They are following closely behind us. Ah, there is Moriarty.'
The train was already moving. Looking out of the window, I saw a tall man waving his hand as if he wanted to stop the train. However, it was too late, and
25 soon we were out of the station. Holmes took off his disguise.
'Have you heard about my rooms in Baker Street, Watson?'
'No,' I replied.
30 'They net fire to them last night. Luckily no great
damage was done.'
'This is terrible, Holmes,' I said.
'We most plan what to do about Moriarty now.'
