Idealized influence – charisma in
earlier research – is split into two components. Idealized influence (behavior)
represents a leader who acts in a charismatic way; he clearly communicates his values
and beliefs, emphasizes the collective nature of the task at hand, and acknowledges the
ethical implications of his decisions. Idealized influence (attributed) is illustrative of
whether or not followers view their leader as charismatic and powerful, and more
generally someone they would want to be associated with
