A trinocular stereomicroscope was used to characterize typical processing defects that can be observed at the mesoscale, such as voids and fiber clumps. The voids content of the biocomposites was assessed using image analysis (IA). The IA software ImageJ was used to that end. Samples with
high void content showed values of up to 27%. For testing purposes only samples with void contents in the order 5–10% were used. Samples with higher void contents were discarded.
