• Capture data once, at its source. Historically, functional areas designed and built their own AIS. Each functional area collected the same data and entered it into its application. This is inefficient, expensive, and results in data discrepancies. It is better to use technology such as EDI and source data automation devices like bar codes to capture data electronically at the source and enter it in the database. This reduces errors, eliminates data processing delays, and reduces clerical and other costs.
