Three healthy crossbred Holstein-Friesian calves of the same age (3 mo.) were selected for the test and housed in an individual stall in the area free from ticks. Diets and water were fed as looting. Neonate R. Microplus larvae from laboratory colony were put on the calves' bodies. After ten days, all calves were shaved off using an electronic hair clipper and three experimental areas were marked on each side of all calves. Area I was treated with 70% ethanol, while area II was treated with Some. Collinsiae extract, and area III was treated with 30ng/ml flumethrin. The amount of each solution used in all areas was 0.04ml/cm on the calf skin. Each application was done manually using a cotton bud. The attached ticks within the marked area were pictured by a camera and the amount of the ticks was counted daily from the pictures taken before(day 0) and after the treatment for 6 consecutive days.
