3.2. Light touch perception across the hand
At the start of the study, tactile sensation was impaired bilaterally, with differences in light touch perception across the areas tested on the dominant hand (Fig. 1). The thumb pad, supplied by the median nerve, was the least sensitive area (median, 2.0 g; inter-quartile range (IQR), 0.2–2.0 g) and the dorsum of the hand, supplied by the radial nerve, was the most sensitive area (median, 0.2 g; IQR, 0.07–0.2 g). These sensory abnormalities were greater than could be explained by age (pb0.001), when data were compared to thresholds adjusted from the 0.07 g to the 0.2 g monofilament in those over 55 years of age.
