The methodology was selected because
of its underlying philosophy that people make
meaning of their experiences and develop their
sense of self through social interactions with
others.The classical grounded theory qualitative
method was employed to reveal the adolescents’
perceptions and daily behaviors as they lived with
the illness.The informants’ experiences were
captured through their own words as they explained
their experiences. The researchers’ preconceived
ideas about the experience were identified and put
aside before going into the field to prevent biasing
or forcing the data, and to allow full discovery of
the adolescents’ experiences.
