How to Staple Without a Stapler
By Heather Lacey
Staplers are a necessity in the modern office, but staple jams and misfires can make this office tool a nuisance. Stapleless staplers are an environmentally friendly and hassle-free alternative. These devices make small slices in the paper and fold the corners to create a staple-free bond. You can achieve the same staple-free results using an office tool you likely already have on hand.
Papers can be attached without staples or a stapler.
Step 1
Arrange the papers so the corners line up. Use the edge of a desk or other flat surface to guide the papers into a flush position.
Step 2
Fold down a corner of the stack of papers. Do not fold it too deeply; a fold that begins 1 inch from the corner is sufficient. Fold the corner toward the front of the papers, so from the back view it appears that one corner is missing.
Step 3
Cut two small slices in the middle of the folded corner. Cut from the corner inward to about half the distance of the fold, creating a flap. Make these parallel cuts about 1/4 inch apart.
Step 4
Fold the freshly cut flap toward the front of the papers. If attaching only a couple of documents, you will be able to fold down the flap so it is flush with the front page. Larger stacks of paper create a flap that sticks up slightly.
