This book describes to the professional stylist-designer the relation between the choice of vehicle shape and the consequent effect on aerodynamic forces and road behaviour. Details are given of the basic concepts which are used to describe the flow patterns over and around various components, the resulting contributions to vehicle drag and lift forces on saloon and racing cars and their effects on vehicle performance and economy. One chapter presents aerodynamic information of importance to the stylist-designer in transforming a concept into engineering reality. Lateral aerodynamic forces and their effects on vehicle stability and road holding characteristics are discussed. The final chapter introduces transient aerodynamic loading and vehicle response.
