Paprika Red pigments is usually extracted from dried red pepper (DRPs)
by heat refluxing extraction with petroleum ether as solvent in
the industrial production , meanwhile capsaicinoids are obtained as a
byproduct by removing them from the oleoresin. For comparison
of extraction yield of capsaicinoids and red pigments from FRP with that from DRPs , a
simulative industrial extraction process of red pigments was
carried out with a Soxhlet extractor using hexane as solvent according
to the previous literatures. The extraction had been gone along until the red colorants
are exhausted for about 6 h. After removal of solvent, the
oleoresin were obtained. Then the contents of capsaicinoids and
red pigments were assayed, respectively. And the results were
shown in Table 4.
