Today is "Sunthorn Phu Day". Sunthorn Phu is Thailand’s best-known royal poet. He was active in the time of King Rama II - III. He left behind a legacy of poems that have become famous over time because of their description of Thai history. His most popular work is the 30,000-line epic of Phra Aphai Mani. The poems describe a fantastical world. The epic tale follows character Prince Aphai Mani, a Byronic hero in his romantic adventures throughout ancient Thailand. In 1986, the 200th anniversary of his birth, he was honored by UNESCO as a great world poet
