Our data suggest that women across a broad economic spectrum would accept nurse delivered care for postpartum depressive symptoms. Almost all of the women were “willing or definitely willing” to complete a screening tool given to them by a nurse and more than half were “definitely willing” to see a nurse for counseling. Moreover, the women in both samples most frequently chose nurses as their preferred counselor, revealing that nurses can, indeed, serve as the “trusted provider” (Miranda, et al., 2003) to whom women might comfortably turn when experiencing depression during the postpartum period.
