Dialogue is a conversation in which two or more people
exchange information, ideas, opinions, or feelings. The purpose of
dialogue is not to persuade someone to do something or win an
argument, but rather to explore complex concerns, gain new
insights and understandings, learn more about yourself or another
person, or enjoy one another’s company. In dialogue, people
suspend their assumptions and beliefs in a free exploration of all
things they want to talk about. Dialogue occurs when Bridges To
Life participants tell their stories in small groups. Schoolmates
talking at lunch or friends drinking coffee together at a local café
are typically engaging in dialogue; as are families lingering around the dinner table; a young person talking quietly with a favorite
parent, uncle, aunt, or grandparent; or people who have hurt one
another just talking about themselves and listening to one another
