The cabinet on Tuesday resolved to extend the limited free bus and train services for low-income people for another six months from Feb 1 to July 31, government spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp said.
Mr Yongyuth said the cabinet assigned the Budget Bureau to allocate 1,589 million baht to compensate the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority for the arrangement, under which 800 ordinary buses provide free rides on 73 routes per day.
The bureau was also told to allocate 524 million baht for the State Railway of Thailand to continue to provide free travel in third-class carriages on 164 trains giving short-haul services and eight long-haul services, each day.
