Charlie nodded, noticing the mop and bucket, "but when I came back the money was gone." Charlie looked to his left, where a short man in jeans and a T-shirt was standing, holding a red bag. He looked very nervous. Sitting at a table nearby, a middle-aged man with wet shoes was eating a sandwich. "One to those two must have taken it," continued Mike. "They were the only ones in here."
"You can't seriously think it was me," said the man sitting at the table. " I haven't moved at all."
"Well, it wasn't me," said the other man. "I've only just come in!"
"Have you called the police?" asked Charlie.
"Yes, that was the first thing I did," said Mike. Just then a police car arrived, and two police officers walked into the diner.
