Factors like shear-driven eddies and large scale vertical motion influence the thermodynamic and kinematic properties of the PBL in this regime, in addition to heat fluxes from diurnal heating. In fact, through field observations and computer visualizations, Schneider and Lilly (1999) specifically identify vertical wind shear as a contributor to the production of turbulence, which influences the makeup of the PBL, and it is uncertain how these complicating effects are manifest in the accuracy of PBL schemes.
