In this large population-based study from 2012, international adoptees reported more symptoms of ADHD, OCD,
depression and perfectionism compared to their non-adopted peers. There were no differences in resilience scores between
the groups. Resilience was associated with mental health problems in the expected direction; adolescents with higher resilience scores reported fewer symptoms of mental health problems. However, therewas no significant interaction between
resilience and adoption status on any of the mental health measures, suggesting that resilience does not operate differently in
adoptees than in non-adopted adolescents.
