Methods of Reducing Infiltration through Grassing Zones adjacent to Pavement Structures
It is understood that the rainwater can infiltrate through the topsoil of the grassing zone into the subgrade sand, then the reduction in infiltration can be achieved through introducing an impervious plastic sheet beneath the topsoil of the grass zone as shown in Figure 49a. Small side ditches adjacent to airfield pavement can also be designed to reduce the surface runoff from the airfield pavement passing through the grassing zones as shown in Figure 49b.
